| Ingredients | What Doublebase Gel contains: The active ingredients are isopropyl myristate (15% w/w) and liquid paraffin (15% w/w). The other ingredients are glycerol, carbomer, sorbitan laurate, trolamine, phenoxyethanol and purified water. |
| Storage | Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use Doublebase Gel after the expiry date shown on the container. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. Do not store above 25°C. Do not freeze the product. If using a tube, replace cap after use. Occasionally, in the 500 g and 1 kg bottles a small pocket of air may form around the bottom end of the pump’s dip tube, making it harder to pump the gel out. This may be resolved by tapping the base of the bottle firmly on a hard surface two or three times, so the gel can settle at the bottom around the end of the dip tube. The pump should then be pumped SLOWLY. |
| Warnings | Fire hazards with paraffin-based and paraffin-free skin products You have been provided this information because we are supplying you with a paraffin-based/emollient product which is associated with a risk of fire. If you are using an emollient, particularly a paraffin-based skin product, which is covered by a dressing or clothing, there is a danger that smoking, or presence around a naked flame, could cause your dressing or clothing to catch fire. Listed below are some important points to consider: • Do not smoke, use naked flames (or be near people who are smoking or using naked flames) or go near anything else which may cause a fire whilst the emollient are in contact with your clothes, dressing or bandages (for example, do not lean over a lit gas cooker or candle or do not allow lit cigarettes to touch clothing or dressings) • Ensure that your clothes and bedding are changed regularly (preferably daily) as the paraffin can soak into fabric and can potentially be a fire hazard • Wash the bedding and clothing at high temperature (between 60-90 degrees Celsius) to reduce the build-up of paraffin; avoid wearing delicate garments when using emollient creams as they cannot be washed at high temperature without causing damage • Be careful to make sure that the paraffin does not soak into chairs, seating or other furniture by covering them with a throw that can be daily washed • Tell your relatives or carers about your treatment and show them this leaflet • Tell your doctor, nurse or pharmacist if you normally smoke as they will be able to offer you help and advice to stop smoking Your treatment is important, but it is essential that you are kept safe when you use these prescribed products. What is Doublebase Gel?
Doublebase is a clinically-proven emollient that has been prescribed to treat dry skin conditions for many years. Doublebase contains a high moisture content that is normally associated with a cream and the easy absorption of a gel. Doublebase has gained a reputation for being non-greasy, despite its high oil content.

How does Doublebase Gel work?
The oily ingredients, isopropyl myristate and liquid paraffin, encourage rehydration and softening of dry skin by forming an occlusive barrier within the skin surface, thus reducing drying from evaporation of water that diffuses from the underlying layers.
Doublebase's specially developed gel formulation breaks down when in contact with salts in the skin, irreversibly separating the oil and water parts of the gel. The oils in Doublebase Gel are no longer suspended in the water, which means they can be absorbed into the skin, form a protective layer and are less susceptible to removal by washing.
