Aproderm Ointment
Aproderm Ointment is an intensive emollient designed to relieve very dry, scaly or irritated skin. It is commonly recommended for conditions such as eczema, dermatitis and as a supportive treatment for chapped or cracked skin. Suitable for use by adults and children, it can be used as part of a regular skin-care routine or on the advice of a healthcare professional. This ointment provides a rich, long‑lasting barrier that helps retain moisture and soothes uncomfortable skin. Its occlusive texture forms a protective layer to reduce water loss and protect against irritants. Aproderm is typically unperfumed and formulated to be gentle on sensitive skin; it can be applied to affected areas as needed and used under dressings where advised by a clinician. Aproderm contains paraffin‑based emollients (for example white soft paraffin and liquid paraffin) together with excipients that help spreadability and stability. If you need exact ingredient details, please check the packaging or ask your pharmacist for the product leaflet. Do not use Aproderm if you, or your child, have ever had an allergic reaction to this product or any of its ingredients — ask your pharmacist if unsure. This is a paraffin‑based product and may present a fire risk: avoid smoking or naked flames while the ointment is in contact with clothing, dressings or bedding; change and wash clothing and bedding regularly (60–90°C) and cover furniture to prevent paraffin build‑up. If you have concerns, speak to your doctor, nurse or pharmacist.| Warnings | Do not use Diprobase Ointment: if you, or your child, have ever had an allergic reaction to Diprobase or any of its ingredients. Ask your pharmacist if you are not sure. Fire hazards with paraffin-based and paraffin-free skin products You have been provided this information because we are supplying you with a paraffin-based/emollient product which is associated with a risk of fire. If you are using an emollient, particularly a paraffin-based skin product, which is covered by a dressing or clothing, there is a danger that smoking, or presence around a naked flame, could cause your dressing or clothing to catch fire. Listed below are some important points to consider: • Do not smoke, use naked flames (or be near people who are smoking or using naked flames) or go near anything else which may cause a fire whilst the emollient are in contact with your clothes, dressing or bandages (for example, do not lean over a lit gas cooker or candle or do not allow lit cigarettes to touch clothing or dressings) • Ensure that your clothes and bedding are changed regularly (preferably daily) as the paraffin can soak into fabric and can potentially be a fire hazard • Wash the bedding and clothing at high temperature (between 60-90 degrees Celsius) to reduce the build-up of paraffin; avoid wearing delicate garments when using emollient creams as they cannot be washed at high temperature without causing damage • Be careful to make sure that the paraffin does not soak into chairs, seating or other furniture by covering them with a throw that can be daily washed • Tell your relatives or carers about your treatment and show them this leaflet • Tell your doctor, nurse or pharmacist if you normally smoke as they will be able to offer you help and advice to stop smoking Your treatment is important, but it is essential that you are kept safe when you use these prescribed products. By following the advice above, you will help us to make sure that you using these products safely. Please speak to your doctor, nurse or pharmacist if you have any questions about the information provided |
